Our Story
Opalseed started at the intersection of two light-filled windows in the founder's 220 square-foot studio apartment. Inspired by the integration of nature into the city, he started to fill this corner of windows with plants.
The collection became a small nursery, and eventually, our founder began selling these plants to his neighbors. The apple tree - which was grown from the seed of an 'Opal' apple - gained attention and become a small talking point as it grew.
This collection of apple seedlings grew to over 100 plants in the span of a few months. With it came branding, custom pots, a website, and slowly morphed into its own tiny business.
A layoff from his day job prompted our founder to take the leap, go all in, and use the existing structure of the business to pivot into something with a greater purpose: community building through design.
The name Opalseed stayed intact. It's come to represent the idea that something incredibly small has the potential to create tremendous value- like the seed of an apple tree.
In order to grow, a seed needs light, watering, patience, and care. The process is slow, but anything truly great takes time to build thoughtfully.
That's exactly what we plan to do here, but the only way to create real change is by doing it together.
